![]() Barack Obama's wave of superdelegate endorsements puts him within reach of the Democratic presidential nomination by the end of the primary season on June 3 — even if he loses half of the remaining six contests. The Illinois senator has picked up 26 superdelegates in the past week. At that pace, he will reach the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination — 2,025 — in the next three weeks, when delegates from the remaining primaries are included. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's best chance to slow Obama is to move the goal posts. She will get that chance May 31 when the Democratic National Committee's rules panel considers proposals to seat the delegates that had been stripped from Florida and Michigan. Those two states violated national party rules by holding their primaries in January and lost their delegates. Phil Hoskins

You have to wonder what is wrong with Americans that requires so many of us to be imprisoned. It is reported that one in 100 of us is in prison on any given day, the highest ratio of any nation in the world. Are we that bad a people that we have to be locked away? Or is there something in our culture that sees punishment as the answer to everything we don’t like? Hal Brown

If Hillary Clinton was in a battle to save the nation from four years of George W. Bush lite or George W. Bush heavy or wherever Senator John McCain falls on that scale, I would urge her to fight to the bitter end. But the polls clearly show she isn't. Barak Obama has as much chance of beating McCain as she does. After a long hard winter working the gulag of the campaign trail, two blissful weeks on the beach at the Caribbean compound of one of her wealthy friends soaking up the sun sure would surely be preferable over the frantic life she's been leading for the "normal" person she pretends to be. Hillary Clinton Thursday admitted that she is the candidate of dumb whites - no more, no less. As her campaign continues its slide into the dustbin of political also-rans, she told USA Today that she should be president because ignorant white people want her in the White House and they are the only people who really matter in this election year. Bob Barr launched a Libertarian Party presidential bid Monday, saying voters are hungry for an alternative to the status quo who would dramatically cut the federal government. "All the kitchen table issues that everybody talks to me about are ones that the next president can actually do something about," Clinton said Sunday night, "if he actually cares about it." The word hung in the air only for a moment.

He's a Republican, for starters. He describes himself as "older than dirt." And he makes no apology for an Iraq war that is especially unpopular on college campuses. Doesn't sound like a recipe for winning the hearts of young voters. And yet John McCain has vowed to make a serious play for the 18- to 29-year-old crowd that's often identified with "Obama-mania."

Did U.S. Republican presidential candidate John McCain vote for President George W. Bush in 2000? Liberal Internet blogger Arianna Huffington says McCain told her he did not. But the Arizona senator says he did vote for Bush, a fellow Republican, in 2000 and campaigned for him all over the country after his own attempt to win the party's nomination failed.
